DFID MISSION FAMILIARIZED WITH PF “ARBITRAZH” ACHIEVEMENTS

 "The TPAC programme demonstrates a high degree of local ownership  in which the methods and processes are internalised by a committed and dedicated Tajik team, comprising of the whole range of diverse communities that make up Tajikistan" noted during interview DFID Governance Adviser, Mirza Jahani.
From 19th to 23rd November 2007 representatives of DFID – Mirza Jahani, Dylan Winder, Shuhrat Rajabov with the TPAC Project Director, David Burton, visited PF “Arbitrazh” to familiarize  with its work and activities. During a briefing meeting with PF “Arbitrazh” the staff presented information about its achievements in the past year and the development of Arbitration Courts in Tajikistan. Meg Luckins, Team Leader, outlined the work of the LSCs and the services they provide locally. Mukim Mallaev, Public Foundation Director, informed on sustainability of the project as well as the NGO and Sadullo Sherov, PF lawyer, described the work of the Inter Agency Working Group (IWG), the development of TPAC legislation in Tajikistan and the сооperation with HEIs of RT. The Mission was interested in the distribution of project information and Nigora Astanova, PR Сoordinator, handed out copies of information materials, as well as details of her work with mass media and information events. Zarina Kasimova, Marketing Coordinator, highlighted main issues on NGO’s sustainability and outlined the NGO’s business development plan and also gave a detailed information on cooperation with partner organizations.
The Mission visited the pilot farm "Istiklol", the debt of which has been recently written off with legal support from the TPAC Project FDR component. The Director of "Istiklol" Ata Hoji Saidov outlined the situation on cotton production and also with the investor, and afterward answered questions of the mission. The situation in Vakhsh once again proves that restructuring of debts is necessary for the dehkan farms in RT.
 The Mission also visited project LSC in Gissar and had meetings with members of the IWG,  with ADB, UNDP and OSI representatives. The mission representatives were impressed by their visits and stressed that the main task is the sustainability of the TPAC Project as well as the PF “Arbitrazh” as a whole.
